The Timmins Voice urges seniors to investigate the numerous resources available online.  Our rapidly changing marketplace is producing a number of challenges for seniors.  Due to a lack of familiarity and a reluctance to use new technologies, the ability of a senior to benefit from these resources is significantly reduced. 

As more and more seniors make the decision to live on their own, they are required to make many complex financial and purchasing decisions.  It is therfore important to develop an awareness of potential fraud and unscrupulous marketing attempts. 

The Government of Canada provides valuable information at their New Seniors Canada Site.  The Government of Ontario has also published a good pool of information at the Ontario Senior's Secretariat site.  Consumer information tips for seniors are available at the Consumer Measures Committee site. 

Many Timmins seniors are able to lead productive and active lives.  Some may be unable to seek active employment however volunteering may provide fulfillment and meaning in their daily lives.  The Timmins Volunteer Center may be able to assist in placement opportunities for seniors who are eager to help others..

- Free Income Tax Service,  Tax forms filled for seniors and others on a low income.  To be eligible an individuals income must not exceed specified limits (check with the Timmins Volunteer Centre for more information).  The service is provided by volunteers.
